Chhattisgarh Police arrested Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj from neighbouring Madhya Pradesh on Thursday over his alleged derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, following which a court here sent him to police remand for two days, an official said.

In her Budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday underlined the need for collaboration between the Centre and states to take up the next-generation reforms covering land, labour, capital and entrepreneurship. As far as revenue share goes, the government has projected to give about 32.5 per cent of central taxes to states during FY25, against the 15th Finance Commission's recommendation of 41 per cent, according to the Union Budget estimate.

About the Dandi project, the official said that the ministry is developing 21 places along the 349-km long Sabarmati-Dandi route where Gandhiji had made night halts during the historic Dandi yatra from March 12 to April 6, 1930, when he broke the salt law that intensified the freedom struggle. There will be simple huts with basic facilities at these night halts. The ambiance will be simple and frugal.

A pair of the distinctive circular metal-rimmed glasses of Mahatma Gandhi, along with his sandals and pocket watch, will be on sale at an auction in New York. The items are of huge interest and expected to well exceed the estimate of 30,000 pounds at the March 4-5 auction, the Daily Telegraph reported on Wednesday. The sandals were given to a British army officer in 1931 prior to the Round Table talks in London that were held to discuss Indian self-rule, the report said.
